Everything you need to know

The 2022 Essex Food and Farming Day is set to to follow the same format as 2021 as it was a huge success and we wanted schools to be 100% confident about a large gathering of multiple schools before going back to a live event.

We are still passionate about providing a hands-on learning experience for the school children in Essex about all things related to farming, food and the environment. So we will be providing a wealth of virtual content packed full of information, activities and competitions that cover all of the 5 zones that you would normally see on our show day. These are; Crops, Food, Livestock, Machinery, Countryside & Environment.

When and how can my school apply to take part in your 2022 event?

Applications will be made through our online Booking Form here, and will be open from 1st November 2021. Details of this will be emailed to all schools across Essex.

When will I know if my school has been successful in the application?

We will let you know by 6th December if your school has been given a place on either the Virtual Only and/or the Event Package.

What age children is this for?

This event is aimed at KS2 children in year 4, year 5 and year 6. Usually only 1 year group per school would be able to visit our show day due to limited numbers on site. However, as this will all take place within your school, we would welcome you to use the material supplied by us to more of your year groups where you find it appropriate.

When can we access the virtual content on your website?

The virtual content will be available from the start of the Spring Term, in January 2022. You will be able to use the content at your own pace throughout the spring and summer term. This gives schools the flexibility to fit the content around your busy school schedule, but give you the maximum time possible to get the most out of all the information.

How many schools will receive the Event Package?

We are limited by supply, cost and logistics but we will be offering and delivering the Event Package to 60 schools across Essex. These will be chosen from all the applications made, giving priority to schools that did not receive a package last year first.

When will those 60 schools receive the Event Package?

Details of exactly what will be included in the Event Package, and how to get the best out of this will be sent out to all participating schools in early March. This will give the relevant teachers time to prepare and plan their lessons accordingly to get the most out of it.

The Event Packages will be delivered to schools after the Easter holidays, in the week commencing 25th April 2022.

What will be included in the package we receive?

Full details of what will be included in the package will be updated on here as soon as they have been finalised. To give you an idea, part of the 2021 package included each school being given a VegTrug planter, some compost and several edible plants to plant, look after and hopefully eat or cook with!

What are the timings of the 2022 event?

  • Applications open to schools on 1st November 2021
  • Submissions need to be received by 26th November 2021.
  • Places will be confirmed to schools by 6th December 2021.
  • Virtual content will be available on our website from 7th January 2022.
  • Delivery of the 2022 Event Package to schools will in the week after Easter holidays, so w/c 25th April 2022.

Will it cost my school anything this year?

As with last year, the Essex Agricultural Society are providing this virtual event at no cost to any school across Essex. We only ask 2 things from you in return. Firstly, that you make the most of the information and encourage your children to get as involved as they can with the activities. We also ask that you complete the given feedback forms by 30th June 2022, or a £1/pupil charge will be billed to your school.

Will there be any competitions this year?

Absolutely! We have got some great competitions in the pipeline for all schools to take part in. Full details of these will be released in January 2022.

Feedback is everything…

We are always very keen to hear and see how you get on with some or all of the tasks that you have been able to complete. There will be a feedback survey at the end of the summer term, but we would also LOVE to see photos or videos of the children getting involved along the way. You can either email them to us at essexschoolsday@gmail.com or post them on our social media channels, either Twitter or Facebook. We really would love to see them as we will miss seeing them all enjoy the show day! More details on how you can share your experiences will be sent within the package.
