Are you able to volunteer at the Essex Schools Food & Farming Day?

After the success of our 2026 event, we will again be back again in 2027 for our traditional show day, so we need your help!

The date is Tuesday 22nd June 2027, and it will again be held at ARU Writtle. Register on the form below.

Every year 3,000 school children visit ARU Writtle to discover how their food gets from field to fork. The schools are escorted by a farmer steward and we would love it if you could help.

The role is great fun. Guide a group of school pupils and their teachers around the event. Answer any general simple questions about food and farming from the pupils. Don’t worry, you will not be responsible for supervising the children!

A useful guide of what you need to do for the day will be sent to you nearer the time.

Please note that we will be allocating 1 Farmer Steward per school of 40 children or less, and 2 or 3 if larger. You will guide the whole school and they will split themselves into groups within each zone. If we have spare stewards then we will allocate more per school.
